Presentation

The first “Spanish and Cultural Heritage Course in San Millán” has and academic programmed focused on the learning of the language by means of daily lessons with a communicative approach as well as different workshops, all given in English, related our cultural heritage in the Monastery of Yuso in San Millán de la Cogolla.

 

Objective of the Course

The course is aimed at students of Spanish with an artistic and/or humanistic profile and the main objective is to improve the participants’ language skills applied to fields such as history, architecture, traditional crafts, painting, sculpture, social and geographic history, cultural tourism and cultural heritage management.

 

Contents

Vocabulary and structures specific of the area: architectural, pictorial and sculptural elements, historical periods of the monastery, development of the language, glosas, copyist’s techniques and distinctive elements of monastic art in the region.

Materials:
Participants will receive a dossier with all the material needed.

Duration:
The course lasts one week and the daily schedule combines language and culture lessons, art and heritage workshops as well as open air activities and a social program.

9th to 15th July 2012 (both included)

Location:
San Millán de la Cogolla, “birthplace” of Spanish language and World Heritage.

Supplementary activities:
Participants will be able to participate in different activities such as the workshops organized by “Emilianensis”, visits to the monasteries, guided tours around the village and its natural surroundings as well as activities related to the gastronomy of the region.

 

Teachers

All teachers have a degree in philology and have extensive experience in the teaching of the language. Supplementary activities will be organized and given by art historians, artists and professionals of the tourist industry.

 

Test

-        Project: All participants will have to complete a log book which they will receive at the beginning of the course. Once evaluated it will be given back to the student.

-        Oral test: After watching a documentary, students will talk in pairs about the key issues.

 

Certificate

Once the participants have finished the course successfully they will be given a forty-hour certificate by Cilengua (International Centre for Research into the Spanish language).

 

Price

On this first edition the courses is subsidized since it belongs to “Emilianensis”. The course is free (including lessons, material and special activities).

Participants will only have to pay for accommodation, meals and transport. In www.emilianensis.com (section “plan your trip”) you can check the different possibilities of accommodation in San Millán de la Cogolla (hotel, camping and rural houses).

 

Requirements

Participants must be older than 18.

Spanish language level: pre-intermediate

Participants must be university students or graduates in fields related to cultural heritage and its management.
