We recommend a weekend in San Millán de la Cogolla in order to discover its natural and cultural surroundings. You can come on your own or with a group of friends.
All activities are free and registration is limited until full capacity is reached. Suitable for youngsters and people older than 14.


SATURDAYS

MORNING:

Visit to the Saint’s Cave


Guided visit to the Saint’s Cave to be able to know the location where Saint Millán used to live. We will study the plants, the animals, the water courses and the mineral resources on which the monasteries stocked up for centuries.

Dates:

  • 5th and 7th April, 2012 (Easter holidays).

AFTERNOON:

Architecture and construction-related crafts workshop


In this workshop we will be able to understand the basic elements of the construction of the Monastery of Yuso thanks to a model: ashlar, wall, arch and vault. We will also see how some of the craftsmen work.

Book workshop


Teamwork to illustrate, with the help of current images, the texts related to Saint Millán’s life written by Gonzalo de Berceo.

Adventures of a young shepherd who ended up being a saint


Guided tour featuring a historical re-enactment in which a narrator will tell of the adventures of Saint Millán, the young shepherd who became a hermit. We will also discover how his life transformed this location into one of the most important monastic spots in Europe, currently Word Heritage.
